448 – NOT QUITE THE RECORD BUT A FANTASTIC DAY AT ALTON TOWN YESTERDAY

Start here

Congratulations to all invlved – 448 was a brilliant turn out but the sprited community feeling from the women behind the bar, the fantastic cuttings books, the old players, the youngsters who came along and that wily old bird Chairman Jim patrolling the touchline bellowing encouragement and hugging anyone in sight after every goal – that community sprit shows COORS that this is one club that will not roll over and die.And matched on the field – 4-0 whata result – SIMBA MIAMBO – what a talented and committed player – give that man the freedom of Alton. We came down from London ranging in age from 65 to 5 and survived replacement buses an emergency work at Bentley to meet up with six friends from Reading who had survived a similar rail trip from Farnboro to North camp to Ash Vale and all stations in between. Was it worth it – ten times over – what a great day.

Yes what a fantastic day, they don’t come along very often do they, I left Shropshire at 7.00am arriving in Alton for shortly after 10, getting home shortly after 9.00 pm. What a start to the game, “Hums” strike would grace any game, the whole teams committment and passion matched that shown off the field by Jim and his fellow committe men, but I would have to single out the role played by skipper SCOTT SANDERSON who suffered a broken nose and chipped tooth on Tuesday at Blackfield in a league game, what an inspiration and display of leadership, no surprise he shares the name of one of the countrys most prominent “heroes”. Just hope the ongoing discussions are fruitful and the team can avoid the drop. To everyone yesterday, well done IT WAS SUPERB

It was indeed a superb day. Quite life-affirming. I loved every minute of my first visit to ATFC. I hope there will be many more in the years to come. Good luck to you.
